A Nigerian restaurant has reportedly been shut down for cooking human flesh and serving it to customers.

The police were tipped off by locals who suspected something horrific was taking place inside the kitchen.

They raided the hotel restaurant to discover human heads which were still dripping with blood in plastic bags.
A local priest who ate at the restaurant – in the south-eastern province of Anambra – was alarmed at the price of meals there, let alone where the meat came from,BBC Swahili reported.

He was presented with a bill of 700 Naira – around £2.20 – when the daily wage for tens of millions of Nigerians is approximately 60p.

The priest said: ‘The attendant noticed my reaction and told me it was the small piece of meat I had eaten that made the bill scale that high.

‘I did not know I had been served with human meat, and that it was that expensive.’

The police also found a terrifying arsenal of weapons which included grenades when they raided the restaurant. Ten people were arrested in connection to the crimes.

One resident said: ‘I am not surprised at the shocking revelation… Every time I went to the market, I observed strange activities going on in the hotel.

‘People who were never cleanly dressed and who looked a bit strange made their way in and out of the hotel, making me very suspicious of their activities

A 50-year-old woman shocked doctors with her enormous breasts, Xiamen, Fujian Province, China.

After years of suffering, the woman, known only as Mrs Lin, finally could start a normal life. She has undergone drastic surgery to remove almost 6 kilos of an unnecessary tissue from her breasts.

Mrs Lin’s breasts had been growing ‘crazily’ every since she was 30, so she eventually decided to go to hospital to
see if doctors could do anything to help

Lin’s breast began to grow rapidly in her 30s and only 20 years later – when the size became unbearable – the woman took courage and visited doctors at Xiamen University’s 1st Hospital.

Doctor in charge of Mrs Lin’s case said despite working as a doctor for more than a decade, he had never seen breasts as large as hers, saying that her breasts hung even under the bellybutton.

During the surgery – reduction mammoplasty – at least 6kg of tissue were removed to shrink breasts to a manageable C cup. The amount of fat removed weighs almost twice as much as an average newborn baby.

If the operation was not performed the consequences could have been frightening, ranging from crippling back pain, neck and arm pain to headaches, friction rash and a curvature of the spine, breathing problems etc.

The medical term for giant breasts is gigantomastia, a form of a condition known as hypertrophy of the breast tissue. It is a rare medical condition and is diagnosed where the breasts weigh more than three per cent of the total body weight.

The infamous "pregnant man" Thomas Beatie just got charged with felony stalking ... but he can rest easy ... he won't be joining the pink underwear crowd at Phoenix's Tent City prison.

As we first reported, Beatie was busted for allegedly stalking his ex-wife by tracking her with a GPS device.

Maricopa County court officials tell us ... Beatie -- a transgender man -- won't do time at Tent City even if he's convicted of a felony because he's a first time offender.

As you know Tent City's the place where male inmates are forced to wear pink undies.

The reality is ... Beatie will most likely get probation.

The video has also captured attention from International media houses like BBC, Daily Mail, Sowentan Live, Afro Cosmopolitan and many more.

In the gory footage, a visibly disgusted Jolly Tumuhiirwe is seen using a spoon to feed the child – Arnella – by force on what looks like porridge. When the child seems to be having difficulty swallowing, she snaps out a command and blurts out: “You are crying?”

She then violently smacks the child twice in the face before proceeding to forcefully feed the child who looks visibly shaken. Perhaps due to the harsh treatment, the child throws up, drawing the full wrath of the maid.

Police has arrested the nanny. She expected to appear before a judge on December 8th 2014 to face further charges that may include attempted murder.

The father, Erick Kamanzi, an employee of a “reputable NGO in Kampala” who had reportedly released the video. He was arrested after Tumuhiirwe laid charges against him, but that police quickly changed their stance and released Kamanzi after he referred them to the video footage.

Male chimps that subjected females to long-term aggressive behavior, often including physical attacks, greatly improved their chances of fathering babies with them.

For male chimpanzees, there may be a benefit to being a bully.

A study of chimpanzees in Tanzania spanning 17 years found that males that subjected females to long-term aggressive behavior, often including physical attacks, greatly improved their chances of fathering babies with them.

'It is certainly not a happy message,' said Arizona State University evolutionary anthropologist Ian Gilby, one of the researchers.

A dominant male chimpanzee feeds in Kibale National Park tropical rain forest, 354km southeast of Uganda's capital Kampala. Scientists said a 17-year study of chimpanzees in Tanzania's Gombe National Park found that males that subjected females to long-term bullying including physical attacks improved their chances of fathering babies with them.

'Males who directed aggression toward females at high rates were more likely to sire those females' offspring than less violent males were.

'This effect was particularly strong for high ranking males (in the chimpanzee community),' Gilby added.

The study involved an ape species that is a close genetic cousin of humans but the researchers were wary about making conclusions about the origins of sexual violence in people.

The researchers knew from detailed long-term observations of this chimp community in Tanzania's Gombe National Park which ones had mated with one another as well as the paternity of 31 babies born during the study period from 1995 through 2011 based on DNA collected from fecal matter.

'The hypothesis is that females are intimidated by long-term aggression from the male so that they acquiesce or even solicit mating from the male when they are fertile, and avoid mating with other males in his presence for fear of further aggression from the male,' said Duke University evolutionary anthropologist Anne Pusey, one of the researchers.

The aggressive behavior by the males included violent physical attacks including biting and striking that sometimes caused wounds as well as chasing the female and engaging in outbursts in which the male charges and strikes nearby foliage.

Mating did not take place during or immediately after the bullying.

In fact, it was serial aggressive behavior over two or three years that was particularly effective in later securing fatherhood.

The researchers found that females at their time of peak fertility actively sought to mate with the males that bullied them.

The researchers noted that the evolutionary lineage for humans and chimps split some 7 million years ago and that the mating systems for the two species are different.

'Nevertheless, recognizing the adaptive value of male-female aggression in chimpanzees may inevitably help us to understand, and hopefully prevent, similar behavior among humans,' Gilby said.

The research was published in the scientific journal Current Biology.

As we age, our mind’s cognitive capacity begins to deteriorate. This is part of the inevitable, natural process of aging that takes its toll on all aspects of human life. While we cannot prevent the effects of aging, we can slow them down, and even reverse them in some cases. Memory loss is a frightening subject for most of us, but the good news is that there are some measures we can take to slow our cognitive decline. Here are seven brain activities that will improve your memory in the long run:
1. Learn a New Language!
Learning a new language can benefit you on many levels. Not only does it add to your personal skill set, but it’s also an outstanding brain exercise that can prevent, delay or even reverse memory loss. Language-learning activities will help you remember, recognize and understand words, which will take your cognitive function to a whole new level. Language learning is a great weapon against memory loss that improves vocabulary and grammar, as well as the elements of mental and verbal fluency.
2. Puzzles and Word Games Are Also Great
Another brain exercise that will enrich your general knowledge and help prevent memory loss is playing word games and solving crosswords or other puzzles. It can be Sudoku or a Scrabble game – whatever appeals to you, as long as it stimulates your mind with new words and makes you associate them with objects or actions. It is now known that playing different word games and doing crossword puzzles on a daily basis can significantly reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease later in life.
3. Never Underestimate the Power of Music!
Music, and music therapy (commonly referred to as ‘melotherapy’) provides great brain exercise as well, since it not only improves your mental focus but also supports healthy long-term cognitive functioning. While it is claimed that listening to classical music can help babies and young children boost their brainpower and improve verbal fluency skills, music is also a great ‘treatment’ for memory loss. Simply listen to your favorite kind of music on a daily basis, and try to remember the melody or lyrics (and sing or hum along), and you will find it both useful and entertaining!
4. Don’t Be Ashamed to Talk to Yourself
Studies have revealed that people who talk to themselves actually have a lower risk of developing dementia later in life. In other words, talking to yourself and even telling yourself stories is an outstanding way to delay memory loss and to stay focused on important details. Moreover, this is also a great ‘emotional exercise.’ Storytelling has been used in the treatment of Alzheimer’s for a long time, and it has turned out to useful in improving memory function by helping you retain more information.
5. Read Different Books and Try to Remember the Plots
Who doesn’t like to read a good book every once in a while? They say that a man who does not read only lives one life, but one who reads can live a thousand lives. This is why one of the greatest brain exercises you can do to prevent memory loss is to read as much as you can, and as often as you can. From books and essays to newspaper or magazine articles, you should read anything that draws your attention. You can do it in your spare time at home, or while riding the train or waiting in a line. Another great tip is trying to remember the plot of the books you read years ago – it definitely helps strengthen the memory!
6. Try Brain-Building Exercises
There are numerous games and exercises that are specifically designed for boosting your brain. Also, hand-eye coordination is particularly important for stimulating your mind and preventing memory loss. You do not need to exhaust yourself with demanding brain exercises; you can rely on easy or moderate exercises that activate the neurons and the synapses, thus sending immediate messages to the nervous system and helping prevent cognitive deficits.
7. Mnemonic Devices Also Come in Handy!
Last, but not least, a mnemonic device is a ‘tool’ that helps you remember things easier. For instance, you can associate a visual image with a name or a word to help you remember a person, or you can associate an acronym with a bigger word. On the other hand, alliterations, rhymes and jokes are three other great ways to remember names, facts, figures and other essential information.
These are seven efficient brain exercises that you can rely on to help prevent or delay memory loss as you age. Used individually or combined, these exercises will undoubtedly help you stay focused and alert, both right now and during your senior years.

For more than a week now lawmakers in Parliament have been haggling in an on and off debate on the suffering of patients stranded in public hospitals due to shortage of medicine.

The crux of the matter, it is explained, is the government’s failure to pay over 90bn/- it owes the Medical Supplies Department (MSD).

To redress this situation, some of the MPs last week went to the extent of proposing that the current Bunge sessions be postponed and the money accruing from their allowances, well to the tune of 100m/-  to each, daily, be channelled to buy medicines for the needy patients.

Sensing that their clamours were yet to be heard, on Monday, they came up a bit louder, demanding government’s emergency plan to be put in place to save Tanzanians suffering and dying due to the shortage of medicines in hospitals.

This showdown however has not been in the failure to supply medicines alone.

Constructions of some buildings meant to boost the state of health delivery in the country have often gone unfinished for years.
Irked by the situation, MPs told the august House on yesterday that the leading regional hospital in the designated capital of Dodoma, needs only 600m/- to finalise construction of a maternal and child health building that has remained dormant for at least eight years.

Yet people have always been denied the services that would have been offered by such a facility were it to be completed on time.

Well such are some of the burgeoning challenges that some of our people have to grapple with because of the manner in which we manage our institutions.

But one may ask, if a leading public hospital like Muhimbili National Hospital in the county’s blossoming commercial hub and a regional hospital in the state’s designated capital would go without the basic health needs like medicines, beds and equipment, then how could the situation in dispensaries and health centres in the villages look like?

We are compelled to ask such difficult questions particularly when keeping in mind that 80 per cent of Tanzanians live in rural areas where medical facilities are nonexistent and where they exist, they have always gone without medical supplies.

Apparently, the problem that the parliament, government and MSD are haggling about is not that medicines are not available in country.

They are galore. The state run distributor, Medical Store Department (MSD) has only refused to release them on grounds that the government should pay 90bn/- owed to the former. The argument is fecund and principled given the prevailing market circumstances.

There is no way out, but the government should pay. But while it is aware of this it has only embarked on half-baked measures which may in the final analysis ruin the very rationale of medicine supplies by MSD.

Bewilderment come to the reign when the same hospitals that lack medicines, staff and even beds are the very ones told by the government to give up the little revenue they garner from cost sharing.

The question is all arguments put forward, who should therefore rescue the patients from this quixotic predicament?

It looks as if the way the government is taking up this matter, there no ready solutions to it at the moment. But shall we be made to believe that truly there are no solutions to this problem?
We believe there are. The government should immediately source for money and pay the debt to have the patients secure medical supplies. This should not be allowed to take long.

Tanzania is one of the leading countries endowed with abundant minerals and other precious resources which can among other things be used to accelerate the development of the health sector.

However, the health sector in Tanzania is still faced with several challenges especially in public hospitals that include scarcity of beds, medicines, medical apparatus as well as specialists.

Pregnant women are the most affected group with many forced to sleep on hospital floors due to shortage of beds and medical treatments.

Society Watch Corporation conducted an investigation in collaboration with other health experts and found that there is huge violation of human rights faced by pregnant women.

Society Watch found that five women out of ten women are afraid to get pregnant because of the ‘torture’ they would face in public hospitals.

Speaking to The Guardian in an exclusive interview Society Watch Corporation Chief Executive Officer Simon Mkondya said that, the government policy for pregnant women is good but its implementation is weak.

According to Mkondya, from 99 women who were interviewed  said that, they are not satisfied with the services they get from hospitals during delivery.

The women face several violations of human rights including, corruption, delay to get services, brutalities, charged to pay the cost for apparatus, ordered to bring cotton, gloves, needle, soaking and yarn, forced to sleep on the floor, they are also stigmatized and exploited.

An expecting woman, Khamisa Jumanne said health workers solicit money from expecting women instead and “if you don’t have money you will receive poor service.”

For his part, husband of one Mwajuma Omari said he was forced to pay 150,000 for his wife to be admitted for surgery.

Social Watch Chief Executive Officer Simon Mkondya cited that, the findings obtained by White Ribbon Alliance show that pregnant women are also forced to walk a long distance to get health services.

He further detailed that,  Rukwa and Singida Region, only 50per cent of pregnant women are able to deliver at a hospital.

Secretary General of Society Watch (SW) Isabela Sosoliso said that Mang’ula Health Centre located in Kilombero Morogoro Region is faced with a dire shortage of beds for pregnant women where by there are only 5 worn out beds in the pregnant ward.

She said in an effort to curb the problem, Chief Medical Officer (CMO),  Innocent Mosha decided to collaborate with the citizens of that council to construct beds by using trees from the nearby forest and managed to construct eight beds.

She however said, following the Medical Store Department (MSD) inspections to Mang’ula Heath Centre and found that women are using those beds made from trees, they ordered them removed but didn’t provide any alternatives means to solve the great shortage of beds.

According to Isabela, the price of one bed is between 400,000 to 700,000/- an amount the centre can not be  not able to afford.

She went on to say that according to the health workers from Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) in Tanzania, there is scarcity of the medicine Misoprostol used to reduce bleeding.

She said the situation is worsened by age, poverty, long distances from health centre, poor infrastructures and few health workers.
Social Welfare Officer, who is also a Nurse at Muhimbili National Hospital Salama Kibao admitted that pregnant women are badly treated because most health workers didn’t expect to work in that field due to poor academic performance.

She further said that, salary is not a problem to them; the problem is that they are working out of their professionalism.
Salama added that, the health workers are doing well at the first time they joined to the office but later on they work under low performance.

However, a citizen from Ubungo Mziray Omary said that, health workers are not available in their work place at the time required, they are founded in private hospitals where they can earn more money at a day.

He said, he volunteered to take pregnant women to the hospital for them to get health services.

Carolyne Boniface, there is a great harassment especially if you don’t give any cash to the doctors.

She argued that, doctors are supposed to be very attentive to patient’s health like when they consider a patient of heat, because most of the pregnant women  who attended to the clinic were just checked their stomach only without being examined their health in general.

For her part Ubungo resident in Dar es Salaam identified by one name of Anastride said, “we need to understand the importance of public hospitals, because when we go to the hospital we are asked to bring many things for delivery such as cotton, gloves, needle, soaking and yarn.  Why should we carry all this things to the hospital while it is a government owned health centre.”

One resident from Sinza in Dar es Salaam said that, public hospitals should reduce harassment to patients likewise the government should take responsibility to monitor the whole process of supplying the medicine without any payments.

Interviewed  by Social Watch Chief Executive Officer Simon Mkondya, Dr Fatuma Saidi noted that pregnant women are sometimes beaten because they are stubborn, especially those who come to deliver for the first time.

She said what is needed is a platform to speak out about this entire problem in order to get assistance from the society and government itself.

A Gynecologist  at Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) Dr Gelase Kamugisha said that when he was in Holland he witnessed the death of pregnant woman  who died in front of specialists, He however said, the specialists were taken to court for  legal action.

He explained that many pregnant women are denied of their rights.  He said pregnancy is not disease. Pregnant women should not be worrying about their own health. If they are worried it represents the poor care of the doctors around.

He said a pregnant woman should be given the first priority in health services.

Kamugisha castigated habits of some doctors who exhort bribes from expectant mothers stating it is one of the biggest misbehaviours  in the health profession.

He further disclosed that, the reason for maternal death is due to poor clinics available, insufficient testing, weak support and lack of medication.

Quoting World Health Organization (WHO), statistics, Kamugisha  noted  that Dar es Salaam with a population of more than four million people should have other eight hospitals like Muhimbili National Hospital, clarifying that for  every 500,000 inhabitants there must be such a hospital like Muhimbili.

According to Dr Kurenje Mbura from Muhimbili National Hospital, one doctor is supposed to serve 5 pregnant woman per day but  the ratio of Tanzania doctors to pregnant is 1: 40 up to 60 pregnant a day, something which threatens health of mothers.

He pointed out that the Ministry of health is faced with a lot of challenges including insufficient beds for patients and shortage of health workers.

Live healthy, live longer
Making just a few changes in your lifestyle can help you live longer.

A recent study found that four bad behaviors—smoking, drinking too much alcohol, not exercising, and not eating enough fruits and veggies—can hustle you into an early grave, and, in effect, age you by as many as 12 years.

Fortunately, you can do something to correct these and other unhealthy behaviors. Adopt the following nine habits to keep your body looking and feeling young.

Don't overeat
If you want to live to 100, leaving a little bit of food on your plate may be a good idea. Author Dan Buettner, who studies longevity around the world, found that the oldest Japanese people stop eating when they are feeling only about 80% full.

St. Louis University researchers have confirmed that eating less helps you age slower; in a 2008 study they found that limiting calories lowered production of T3, a thyroid hormone that slows metabolism—and speeds up the aging process.

Get busy
Having satisfying sex two to three times per week can add as many as three years to your life. Getting busy can burn an impressive amount of calories—sometimes as much as running for 30 minutes. (Which would you rather do?)

Regular sex may also lower your blood pressure, improve your sleep, boost your immunity, and protect your heart.

When a skinny girl or woman passes by, men don’t even bother to look or show interest. But as soon as they see a chubby woman, with a round buttocks and full breasts, they turn around in a flash, thats one of the unwritten philosphies in these streets that A woman, a real woman, must have curves, there are women who like it when men praise their behind actually most.

In Kenya we've heard of crude methods by ladies desperately looking for the curvy figure including consumption of chicken feeds amongst other methods.

The craze for bigger behinds has caught up with ladies across board including DRC

They are now using rectal suppository diets believed by some as one surefire way to beef up the booty, with Maggi stock cubes being one common ingredient…

Pumping themselves with vitamins, ginger juice and stock cubes. Yet this popular diet in Kinshasa is not being swallowed whole. Rectal suppository diets are dangerous, say doctors.

The power of stock cubes
One bum-enhancing mixture includes C4 syrup and tablets, Maggi stock cubes and Tangawisi, a raw ginger juice. “And it works!” says Sophie who lives in Kinshasa.

As for Micheline’s regimen: “I add 50 vitamin tablets into the vitamin syrup and then take it before going to bed. I take the mixture once a week, sometimes throughout the week.”

Meanwhile, another lady Henriette, prefers Dongo-Dongo Gombo, a soup made from a hibiscus-like flower. “I have noticed that C4 makes me very tired and drowsy,Gombo and stock cubes are the way to go for a nice-looking behind.”

However this also comes along with severe Side effects which includes:

Not all women seem to achieve the desired outcome of the suppository diet. Some only suffer the side effects.

“Some girls take ten tablets of C4 with large quantities of maize porridge and then go to sleep. They sometimes do this for weeks without any effect on their buttocks,” explains Sandrine

The human body rejects excess food when ingested orally. But when taken via the rectum, everything gets almost completely absorbed.

Complications

Over and above unforeseen complications, the overdose of some chemicals usually results in intoxication and infection, according to Angèle Mwenze, a military hospital doctor

“I had a patient who died from engaging so much in the practice that some fluid started coming out from between her legs,” says Mwenze. “She had an infection and died despite the treatment attempts. The insertion of stock cube in the rectum can cause breakages. There is also a risk of infarction, arteritis and heart attack.”

In Sophie’s case, the plumping cure’s effects were more than physical. “My partner was becoming distant and blameful, and we were fighting a lot as a couple. So I had to do something to bring him back to me,” she says, describing one of her motives. “It worked!”

So in case you've tried out other methods unsuccessfully yet still determined to get your curves on well give this a try would you?

Building three "Great Walls" across Tornado Alley in the US could eliminate the disasters, a physicist says.

The barriers - 300m (980ft) high and up to 100 miles long - would act like hill ranges, softening winds before twisters can form.

They would cost $16bn (£9.6bn) to build but save billions of dollars of damage each year, said Prof Rongjia Tao, of Temple University, Philadelphia.

He unveiled his idea at the American Physical Society meeting in Denver.
However critics say the idea is unworkable, and would create more problems than it solves.
Threat over 'forever'

Every year hundreds of twisters tear through communities in the great north-south corridor between the Rocky and Appalachian Mountain ranges.

The proposed walls would not shelter towns - they would not be strong enough to block a tornado in motion.
Instead, they would soften the clashing streams of hot southern and cold northern air, which form twisters in the first place, Prof Tao said.

"If we build three east-west great walls, one in North Dakota, one along the border between Kansas and Oklahoma, and the third in the south in Texas and Louisiana, we will diminish the threats in Tornado Alley forever," he said.

As evidence, he points to China - where only three tornadoes were recorded last year, compared to 803 in the US.

China too has flat plain valleys running north-south, but the difference is they are broken up by east-west hill ranges.

Although only a few hundred metres high, they are enough to take the sting out of air currents before they clash, Prof Tao believes.

Hotspot Back in the US, he notes that the flat farmlands of Illinois experience wildly varying risks of twisters.
"Washington County is a tornado hotspot. But just 60 miles (100km) away is Gallatin County, where there is almost no risk," he told BBC News.

"Why? Just look at the map - at Gallatin you have the Shawnee Hills."
These act like a barrier 200-250m (820ft) high, protecting Gallatin, he says.
"We may not have east-west mountain ranges - like the Alps in Europe - we can build walls."

"We've already been doing computer simulations and next we aim to build physical models for testing [in wind tunnels]."
Rather than create an eyesore, the walls could be "attractively" designed, says Prof Tao.
He cites the Comcast skyscraper in Philadelphia - also about 300m high, and built with a reinforced glass exterior.
"Our tornado wall could even be built of glass too. It could be a beautiful landmark," he told BBC News.
"I spoke to some architects and they said it's possible. It would take a few years to finish the walls but we could build them in stages."
Prof Tao has yet to approach government or environmental agencies with his scheme, but the reaction from meteorologists has been highly sceptical.
Harold Brooks, of the National Severe Storms Laboratory, said the great walls "simply wouldn't work".
